Lai cried, feeling the hot water soak into her skin, the water turning pink reminding her she needed to talk. “I-I was handing o-out fliers, for my studio, and I-I was almost done w-when I saw a car with a baby l-left alone in it,” she sputtered out as she grabbed the water, scrubbing at her skin as if she intended to rip it off. She could finally smell the blood, and it made her want to puke, “I saw th-that it was parked near a house w-with the door open, so I th-thought it was alright t-to go in and see w-what was going on, and there were men over a woman, sh-she was beat, and I went to punch one, turns out he had a gun…” her voice shook, as she felt the tears streaming down her cheeks.
“T-Turns out, he was just trying to h-help too, but h-he ended up shooting the real abuser, and took off, I h-had to call the cops Lyle, I g-got his blood on me,” she has scrubbed all the blood off from her skin, tossing the shirt into the trash as she lay against him in her bra. “I, I just want to stay here, but I-I have to go in and I.D. the guy…” she muttered, crying onto his chest.
He tried to soothe her frantic hands, scrubbing violently at skin that was still half covered by clothing wouldn’t do her much good. His hands slid across the blood stained areas tried to the wipe it away, wipe away everything that had happened to her today. “I’m gonna go with you, you aren’t going alone” He assured her, running his fingers slowly through her hair trying to keep her in one piece, he needed her to be okay. That was all he wanted, anyone else involved in whatever happened today mattered less than Alaizabel. She was the only other person on this planet in his mind right now.
Lyle whispered a litany of you’re okay’s into her skin. He needed to assure her that she was safe, he’d die before he let her take anything else onto her psyche. “I’m gonna go with you, and then we’re gonna come home and curl up in bed and you’re gonna show me all of the wedding plans, okay Elvira?” He was doing everything he could to keep his voice from trembling. He needed to hold himself together to hold her together.

Snuggling into him, Lai let out a sharp sob. “L-lyle,” she whimpered into the crook of his neck. She was so relieved to be in his arms, to be home, she never wanted to leave now. Lai could feel the shuddering sobs come back, and pour out into his neck, her thin arms wrapping around his neck tightly. “I-I don’t, I don’t want to g-go outside, go outside a-anymore…” she chocked out, gripping onto him as if he was going to disappear. All she wanted to do was shower, go to bed, and live like Rapunzel in a tower, and just never come down again.
But she knew she was just in shock, that in a few days she’s be out and about again, albeit with more protection next time. She just wasn’t expecting today to go like this. Lai whimpered into her husband, “Please, p-please, don’t let me g-go,” and she knew he wouldn’t. Something clicked in her head though, that she must have worried him. Lai’s stomach knotted up as she cried a little harder, saying ‘Sorry’ every time she took a breath. She needed to stop doing this to him.
Her words barely registered in his mind as he pressed her to his chest tighter, he could feel the tears seeping into his crisp white shirt, that didn’t phase him either. Lyle had been terrified. He hadn’t been there to protect Kitty, he’d promised himself that he would be there to at least protect his own wife. This was his fears just being both answered and toyed with by the fates. He pressed his face into the crook of her neck, it smelled too much like blood for him to be able to get to the familiar scent of her skin. He put her down, arms almost refusing to unwind from her tiny torso. But they did, his hand clamped down over hers as he lead her to the bathroom.
Sitting in the tub, turning the hot water on he sat with her in his lap. It was similar to last time, except the water turned pink not brown, and he held her tight to his chest, peppering her skin with kisses. “What happened? Are you okay? I’m not leaving you alone….” The three sentences were all he could manage. He needed her too much to be able to cope with whatever had happened to her today, but he had to know.

Lai shuffled up the stairs, bloodied boots in hand as she gingerly fished for her keys. She could feel the dried blood caked on her arm, back, and the side of her face as she made her way to the door. She stood there for a second, her mind still a hazey blur of what happened. She just wanted to hand out fliers, get it done, and come home, not have to see someone get shot, and have their blood on her as she walked home, looking at her boots, the blood seeping into them. She had half a mind to burn all of the things that touched the blood, and just forgot this ever happened. Lai should’ve been used to it, this kind of death, but she never was apart of it.
Lai had tried to reason with the abuser, tired to get him out, but he died, right next to her as the blonde man ran off. Nikki wasin the hospital, and she had to make a mental note to go see her, and see if she needed anything from Lai. Gnawing on her lip, Lai finally pulled out her key and let herself into the apartment. She tried not to get the boots on the door, the blood as she stepped in and closed the door behind her. She could hear the t.v and her stomach dropped. Justin’s voice was speaking of what happened, and her body shook violently, wanting to hurl.
He’d been pacing since he’d woken up, which granted was only twenty minutes prior. But his heart was in his stomach. He had to find the stupid piece of crap phone. Initially he just intended to call Kitty and apologize about sleeping through his visit today, but then he’d caught a bit of the news. Sitting down on the couch in shock as he saw the cop talk about the shooting earlier in the day. There was no way shit like this happened often in a place like this. Alaizabel. He had no clue where his wife was. That was normal, but now? He had to know where she was, if she was okay.
The door clicked shut and Lyle raced into the front room, the was blood dried and brown caked onto her but his first reaction was to sweep her clear up off the floor. Near tears, unsure of what to do with the gratitude he felt. Logic said that if she’d been shot she wouldn’t have walked home, it wasn’t her blood. The sound of Alaizabel’s boots hitting the carpet with a loud thunk reminded him of how pissed Evan would be about blood getting on her pristine hard wood flooring. But Lyle didn’t care he just hugged Alaizabel tighter, needing the physical reminder that she was okay.
